Summer Update

Dear Fellow Club Members,

We hope you are back in the swing and enjoying your bowls again. There have been quite a few changes that the Committee need to update you with.

Firstly, due to several resignations we have some new members on the Committee. Please see the Club notice board for further information.

Rob Wood is now Chairman and I’m sure you will agree, has been a committed member of the club for many years and will do a super job! He has also offered to be our Safeguarding Officer. See noticeboard for more information.

We have a vacant post at present for Fixture Secretary, so if you are interested, please speak to one of the Committee.

Robert Curtis is now Greenkeeper. Robert knows the job inside out and will be supported by a team of helpers. They have a lot of work to do to keep the green in great condition, so we will need keen gardeners in future to help keep the borders tidy.

As part of our Centenary Celebrations the Committee have redesigned our badge to make it more personal to the club. We are very pleased with it and hope you are too! An explanation of the design is on the Clubs website. See below.

The Committee will be giving every member a new badge as a Centenary gift. Further badges can be purchased. Price to be agreed once negotiations with Shotbowl, who are embroidering it for us, have been agreed.

The Committee have purchased a new Noticeboard for the Clubhouse. We hope you will find its new organisation helpful in keeping you up to date with events. Feedback to the Club Secretary very welcome.

Islip Bowls Club new website is now up and running. Please use this site for up-to-date information about events at the club. Please refer new members to it. It will hopefully help us to gain even more new members too!

As part of the Big Bowls Open Day and the Club’s Centenary the Committee invite all members to fill in an anonymous questionnaire so that they can move the Club forward with its members views in mind. It only takes 2 minutes! Please put your completed questionnaire in the labelled box in the Clubhouse.

We have also re-established a Preloved wardrobe of bowls kit to help with the Clubs fund raising efforts. The kit is in the ladies changing rooms. Please do try on and all donations would be very welcome. There is a donations box in the Clubhouse.

Speaking of donations – we are pleased to inform you that we have just secured a grant of £1,000 from the Arnold Clark Community Fund.

Dates for your Diary

Up and Coming Events-Charter Fair in Thrapston and Islip Bowls Club Race Night

Unfortunately, The Bill Hawkins Trophy on 20th Jun had to been cancelled due to bad weather. The Captains plan to re arrange this event so please keep an eye on the noticeboard and website for updates.

Finally, we have a Greens Inspection on Wed 7th July at 10am. Fingers crossed we get a good judgement after the all the hard work, from Greenkeepers past and present and all from volunteers who help them. See noticeboard for our grading.

We hope that the changes that have been made at the Club will put the club in a strong position to thrive in its next 100 years!

The Committee look forward to joining you at the Centenary Celebrations.

Enjoy the rest of the season!
