About our Club
We are a small friendly club that prides itself on welcoming new members
In its idyllic situation, surrounded by the Islip Recreation Ground in the centre of Islip, lies Islip Bowls Club. Established a century ago, the Club occupies a beautiful position overlooked by the Parish Church to one side and the playing field and Village Hall to the others. Originally, the Green was to the West of the existing Green, but in the seventies a new Green was established on the old Islip Tennis Courts.
Complete facilities for Bowling
There are now complete facilities for Bowling albeit not a full-size Green (total area 1000 sq. metres- large enough for five rinks), changing rooms and toilets. It has a small clubhouse with a kitchen area and tables and chairs for club members and visitors to enjoy refreshments after matches.
We also have workshops and storage facilities for greenkeeping machines and equipment. There is a fully automatic irrigation scheme and paved areas throughout all surrounded by picturesque gardens. The green and grounds are expertly cared for by our two Greenkeepers. Other members of the group help out with routine jobs to keep it in tip top condition.
We have recently received a grant which allowed us to upgrade the surrounds of the green, making it safer and more accessible to less able members.
We also have plenty of seating outside the club for members and visitors to sit and enjoy the game.
Our notice board inside the Clubhouse and the website, keep members up to date with events, along with the excellent work done by our hardworking Committee.
The Committee arrange social events such as trips to the coast each summer to play coastal bowls clubs. We have had excellent days out at Cromer and Clacton on Sea to name a couple.
The Committee also arranges other social events closer to home such as Race Nights and Quiz Nights. Later this summer, we are planning to have a Barbecue for members and their families to celebrate 100 Years of Islip Bowls Club.
You can also get involved with fund raising events for the club such as Jumble Sales, Plant Swaps and we also take part in Thrapston’s Charter Fair.
You can choose how much you want to get involved with the game from attending roll up sessions, representing your club against local clubs or playing in County matches.
It’s great to make new friends within the club and to meet people from other clubs too. We are a small friendly club who is always ready to welcome new members. Why not come along on a Monday at 2pm or a Tuesday at 6pm to have a roll up and find out more.
